Flag Football Practice Curriculum

A complete eight-week season of 60-minute practices for volunteer coaches, with a short at-home section for parents every week.

Eight drills, not eighty

Most flag football material is a library: fifty drills sorted by category, with no guidance on which to run. That is the wrong shape for a volunteer coach with one hour a week.

This curriculum uses eight drills for the entire season. Every week runs two of them, and each returns four or five times at rising difficulty. A player who runs the flag pull circuit six times gets good at pulling flags. A player who runs six different flag drills once each gets six introductions.

If you are the coach, the practice plans are yours. If you are a parent, the box at the end of each week is the fifteen minutes that matters at home.

What it assumes

  • 5-on-5, the most common format at this age, with notes for 7-on-7
  • One 60-minute practice per week, plus a game
  • Roughly 8 to 12 players
  • Cones, flag belts and a ball that fits your division
